$1.5 Million Settlement in Sex Abuse Case at Gymnastics Club
In 2010, a DuPage County judge signed off on the settlement of a sex abuse lawsuit against American Institute of Gymnastics where 13 girls between the ages of 7 and 13 had been molested by a coach between 2000 and 2002.
The case, settled for $1.5 million, involved club coach Michael Cardamone, who also faces criminal charges that remain pending. American Institute of Gymnastics and its owner Linda Lynch were sued for failing to fire Cardamone or restrict his access to young girls after three prior complaints of sexual misconduct against him, as well as failing to notify Illinois Department of Children and Family Services of the allegations.
The lawsuit was filed in DuPage County under case number 05L267, which was consolidated with 05L304. Attorneys Peter Flowers, Craig Brown, and Ryan Theriault represented one of the victims.
